Welcome to the Australian Payments Forum website.
The Board of the Australian Payments Clearing Association (APCA) established the Australian Payments Forum (formerly the Card Payments Forum) to promote industry-based and non-regulatory initiatives in Australia as a means of enhancing competition in cards payments with minimal regulatory overlay.
On this site, you will find details of meetings held by the Forum, a Charter for the Forum as well as research commissioned by and for the Forum. This research has been published to stimulate discussion and debate and should not be taken as representing the views of the Forum or any of its participating organisations.
The Forum considers the future direction of public policy in payments, focusing on ways to promote innovation and system evolution over the long term while ensuring healthy competition. Participants discuss complex issues such as:
- Product innovation - tracking developments in product and network innovation both in Australia and internationally, and seeking to identify ways to promote innovation, particularly at the network or system level; and
- Competition v Collaboration - identifying areas where industry co-operation would help to develop a better platform for efficient competition.
I hope visitors to this site will find the work of the Australian Payments Forum helpful in considering the future of the Australian payments system and the role of industry in addressing public policy objectives.
